Rest Stop #2: Your Welfare…

We are already at our second check in. Slow and steady wins the race. Rushing through this and thinking you can brute force this effort is NOT NOT NOT going to work.  Do the weekly exercise and work on staying in personal growth awareness mode as much as you can. There are a few absolutely critical aspects of your personal transformation we need to touch base on:

  1. You absolutely, positively 100% have to believe in this process. If you do not believe you will not achieve.
  2. Clarity of purpose is power.
  3. You can almost with certainty be and do most anything … but true peace and fulfillment come from being the best you possible.
  4. As you progress through this it should feel liberating. You should feel empowered by doing the exercises.
  5. You need to look at the pieces that make up your life and decide what is still serving you and what you need to remove. This helps clear your mind and subconsciousness to open up room and free up mental energy to carry you forward.

At this check in you should have role models, images, and ideals of the new you and how that person acts, behaves, carries themselves, thinks… and you are envisioning yourself with these traits. Even more powerful is that you are thinking about all the life changes that this new you has as a result of these new traits and values.  You are moving your life to a new level. You are working on reflecting on elements of your past and how they led to the you that you are today, and on what these past reflections tell you about the true, honest, real you.

Have you considered the power of the words the ghost of Marley gives Scrooge:  “I wear the chain I forged in life. I made it link by link and yard by yard. I girded it on of my own free will, and of my own free will I wore it.  Is its pattern strange to you?”  This is a big part of coming to grips with your past. You are where you are in life, and who you are, as the sum total of the decisions and actions of your past.  Letting go will eliminate some of this baggage. Going back, saying your sorry, saying thank you and letting those in your past that helped you get to where you are will also help you move forward.  Let’s be real; you are working on a self-development blog so clearly you are not living the life you want.  If you say that there are not things in your past that you need to let go and or close out then I have to think that you are not looking hard enough. This doesn’t mean that you did anything horrible but it does mean that you have to accept that you got you to where you are by your actions and your inactions. If you start telling yourself this or that isn’t fair and I should have been given this or that or this or that went against me and I was done wrong… LET IT GO.  The more you dwell on it the more you hold yourself back.  Think of it as an event that you are using for your own good to help propel you forward and be grateful for it.

Do you have a copy of the book at your reference? You should be reading along as we move forward together. It is fine if you get ahead and want to read the entire book, then go back and re-read the section we are covering and further digest the story line and highlights as we go through the week’s reading and assignment. I even have multiple versions of the movie recorded on the DVR so I can go back and watch it as part of my weekly writing.  Has the story come more alive for you yet? The thought of you being in the early stages of your own personal reclamation should feel…. Exciting!
